The Kidsgrove Sports Centre initially opened its doors to the public in 1976 and has always been closely connected with the local community. Whether it was the local community raising money to help build the Centre, or contributed by the many 1000s who were regularly using the facilities, it has always held a close connection with it’s community and was a popular destination until it’s closure on 30th June 2017.
The strength of feeling within the community caused by the closure was phenomenal, as this resulted in a huge detrimental impact on sporting participation, health and wellbeing. Through pressure and continued lobbying the community was successful in demonstrating the importance of Kidsgrove Sports Centre.
This led to the formation of the Kidsgrove Sports Centre Community Group, a registered charity with the aim of returning affordable health and leisure opportunities to the community through the refurbishment of the Sports Centre.
We are pleased to announce our upcoming re-opening in 2022, under a community management model. This means that £1 spent in the Centre will be reinvested back into it and our local community.
